SOLIDARITY AND MUTUAL SUPPORT
We value and promote a close, respectful, solidarity and friendly relation with the communities we work, and among the members of the Institution.
PARTICIPATION AND DEMOCRATIC CONSULTATION
We believe that the best decisions are taken with the ideas and comments of everyone. Our Managers make an effort to take into account the opinions of their working teams, to consult at all levels and to respect and motivate the work of their staff. On the basis of these participation and consult processes, we all respect and support the decisions taken by our institutional mentors.
GENDER AWARENESS
We believe in equity between men and women, in both the inside as in the implementation of our projects.
HONESTY AND AUSTERITY
We believe that it is fundamental to make an honest and efficient use of all the organization resources. We apply a strict Austerity in the use of funds and in the implementation of all of our activities, aware that waste and frivolity are not sustainable for the Institution or for humanity.
LOCAL AND BASE FOCUS
We value and promote a local perspective of environmental problems and we search to closely identify ourselves with the area where we work. Our team is formed mainly with people from our focus areas.
ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEERING
We value and promote the Volunteering. We pursue to mobilize the ad-honorem support from preservationists’ men and women, creating the institutional framework for that purpose. We conceive the Volunteering as a necessary prerequisite to demonstrate our commitment with the Institutional Mission.
COMMITMENT AND MYSTIC
We value the personal commitment and work mystic above all other considerations. We are a group of ecologists at the service of the Preservationist Cause in Guatemala.
SELF-FINANCING AND LOCAL FUNDS COLLECTION
We believe it is important that FUNDAECO produces its own work resources through self-financing activities. We believe that the main impulse to our work has to come from the Guatemalan people that assume their responsibility to conserve our eternal spring. That is why we make an effort to raise funds from individuals and local companies. All the members of the institution are conceived as fundraisers.
INTEGRATION AND VALORIZATION OF THE TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF OUR WORKING REGIONS
We assume the institutional responsibility to know, integrate and value the traditional knowledge of indigenous people in all our institutional interventions.
A Protected Area and Natural Reserve properly managed and protected Network; co-administered with the participation of empowered and sustainable local communities; and that provide direct benefits, sustainable livelihoods and well-being to local people and to all Nation.
In the next ten years, FUNDAECO will become a Strategic Ally from the Guatemala State and SICA –and mainly CONAP, MARN, INAB, DIPESCA, OCRET, SEGEPLAN and CCAD- to promote an Ecological Culture; Land Management for the maintenance of Environmental Services; and a Green Economic Development Model, both national and regional.
Through the systematic actions of legislative lobbying and incidence, FUNDAECO will support the consolidation of an Environmental Law and Policy Framework, a Government Budget with Environmental Focus and Green Business Investments –including, low in carbon and respectful to the limits of Planetary Biosphere-.
Through its territorial interventions, FUNDAECO will support the consolidation of a National System of Protected Natural Areas that –under different legal, institutional and social-cultural models- will promote the protection to biodiversity, the sustainable production of goods and environmental services, the maintenance of sustainable livelihood means (food, water, wood, soil and housing) the creation of employments and economic income, the adaptation to climate change, democratic governability and the wide participation of male and female actors, in particular, from the Communities and the Indigenous People.
OUR INSTITUTIONAL MISSION FOR THE PERIOD 2011-2021
In a High Vulnerability Social-Environmental Context, FUNDAECO will help –from the local up to the national and regional- in the awareness raising and the direct action of all society sectors, to face Climate Change through the conservation of natural ecosystems and of their environmental services; and through the defense and maintenance of Sustainable Livelihoods, primarily for the more marginalized and vulnerable society sectors.
OUR NEW INSTITUTIONAL VISION FOR 2021
In a fair, solidary and sustainable society, that bases its future in a Peace and Life Culture; in a Land Management for the maintenance of Environmental Services and Nature Conservation; and in a Green Economic Development Model –including, low- carbon and respectful of the Planetary Biosphere limits.
