Healthy and Empowered Women and Girls
We strengthen the enforcement of the national and international legal framework of women’s fundamental human rights; with emphasis in sexual and reproductive rights, formal and informal education, productive entrepreneurship and rural business.
Women –as mothers and providers of family care- are the ones more affected by environmental degradation, and their support is vital for the success of nature conservation efforts and sustainable development. From a coherent perspective, sexual and reproductive health and the environmental problems are connected, because their deterioration directly influences above life quality from people and communities, and particularly in rural women.
Generally, in those places where the environment is more degraded, also health and women’s rights are weaker.
From a Preservation perspective based in Rights, in FUNDAECO we believe that people –and particularly women (girls, teenagers and adults) - must protect their sexual and reproductive rights as fundamental human rights so they can be empowered and fully responsible for their future. In the medium and long term, the strengthening of those rights will have positive effects in environmental and natural resources conservation protection efforts.
Also, healthy and empowered rural women will play a more leading and active role in the promotion of environmental sustainability of their communities.
Therefore, FUNDAECO together with the communities, their female leaders and midwives, operate a 21 Clinic Network and 9 community medicine cabinets to attend young and adult women that live in isolated zones where the state coverage to their sexual and reproductive health was limited, today young women and women of these communities have a near service and with cultural relevance.
FUNDAECO together with the Movement for Equity in Guatemala Association (AME, by its initials in Spanish) develops training processes about their rights, including sexual and reproductive rights, including a life free from violence.
Due to the program, study opportunities have been managed for teenagers and young women, as well as opportunities for productive alternative development, created and developed by female groups.
